Job Assistant

A job assistant refers to someone who helps an employee with a disability perform marginal job functions, or maybe carry equipment or get supplies, or maybe even serve as a driver. A job assistant does not actually perform the essential functions of an employee’s job, but may provide assistance to enable the employee to perform them, for example a page turner for a proofreader who cannot use his hands. Because job assistants help with work-related functions, it is typically the employer’s responsibility to hire and pay for them.
