Step 4: Choose the Accommodation

Reaching Materials Overhead

An individual with a certain limitations may need to reach materials overhead. To help accommodate this limitation, a survey of materials and supplies should be performed first. This survey will identify frequently used items as well as heavy and awkward materials. Rearranging storage areas so that heavy and frequently used materials are accessed at waist levels is usually very helpful. Either raising individuals to meet comfortable working heights or lowering materials to comfortable working levels is preferable. Aerial personnel lifts, rolling safety ladders, reachers, and order pickers are products that can help.
