Lead Consultant, Self-Employment Team
Kim Cordingly is a Lead Consultant with the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), a free consulting service funded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy. Kim began working at JAN in 1985 and currently leads JAN's self-employment team. In her role as a consultant, she provides individualized technical assistance and support to individuals with disabilities who are interested in entrepreneurship, self-employment/independent contracting, telework and home-based employment, and non-profit development. Kim presents nationally on topics related to entrepreneurial options for people with disabilities as well as conducting research and writing about these topics.
Kim received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan with a specialization in English education and later a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from West Virginia University (WVU). In 2007, she graduated with a Ph.D. in geography from WVU with areas of interest that include economic geography and work restructuring; socio-spatial perspectives on disability and illness; gender and entrepreneurship; telework and alternative work patterns; economic and community development; and qualitative research methods. Kim is a faculty associate with WVU's Center for Women's Studies and is a member of the Association of American Geographers, the National Women's Studies Association, and the Canadian Association of Geographers.
