Second Installment of JAN's Just-In-Time Module Series Released (02/02/12).

• JAN announces the second in a series of fully-accessible training modules. The second just-in-time module is titled "Understanding and Applying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act and Its Regulations." The ADA Amendments Act of 2008 significantly broadened the definition of disability, leaving many employers unsure of how to determine whether an employee has a disability. This 43 minute training module and accompanying transcript and handout provides an overview of the changes made to the definition of disability, a summary of the guidance provided by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's regulations, and practical ideas for applying the new definition in the workplace. This module can be used to train hiring managers, HR, and supervisors and managers. Individuals can view the module at their computer or employers can use the module as part of a larger training. JAN's Just-In-Time Module Series Released (01/11/12).

• JAN announces the first in a series of fully-accessible training modules. The first just-in-time module features "JAN's Interactive Process." With the passage of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, employers have moved past the definition of disability and on to providing accommodations. The key to successful accommodations is having an effective interactive accommodation process. This 23 minute training module and accompanying transcript and handout provides a sample step-by-step process that employers can use in their own workplaces to help them successfully accommodate applicants or employees. This module can be used to train new accommodation specialists, disability managers, and others responsible for initiating and maneuvering through the accommodation landscape. Trainees can view the module at their computer or use the module as part of a larger training. • JAN's Interactive Process: Federal Sector highlighted in training on "Introduction to Reasonable Accommodations," developed by the Office of Personnel Management, in partnership with CAP and the USDA TARGET Center. JAN Releases Webcast Archive of Understanding and Accommodating Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Workplace (12/19/11).

• Presenters discussed situations and practical solutions for challenging workplace issues related to autism spectrum disorders. JAN Publishes Accommodating Veterans in the Workplace Document and Releases Webcast Archive of Veterans' Issues in Honor of Veterans Day (11/10/11).

• Find accommodation examples in JAN's Accommodating Veterans in the Workplace and join speakers as they talk with an employer and a wounded service member who has successfully transitioned from the military into a career in the civilian workforce. You will learn what resources employers use to successfully recruit and retain qualified returning service members. JAN Announces Federal Winter Webcast Series - 2012 (10/13/11).

• JAN will provide three free 1.5 hour Webcast sessions in 2012. The three part series will cover the hiring and employment of people with disabilities in the Federal government, the interactive process, and best practices. JAN Releases Accommodation and Compliance Series Publication - Workplace Accommodations: Low Cost, High Impact (09/01/11).

• This publication provides annually updated research findings from JAN and address the costs and benefits of job accommodations. Employers in the JAN study reported that a high percentage (56%) of accommodations cost absolutely nothing to make, while the rest typically cost only $500. Data remain consistent, but show a drop in the cost of accommodation from $600 to $500. >> Read the Low Cost, High Impact Document.

• The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 passed after considerable debate between the business and disability communities. JAN Releases Updated Fact Sheet Series: Accessibility under the ADA (05/27/11).

• On July 23, 2010, Attorney General Eric Holder signed final regulations revising ADA regulations, including its ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The revised regulations amend the Department's title II regulation, 28 CFR Part 35, and the title III regulation, 28 CFR Part 36. These final rules went into effect on March 15, 2011. Compliance with the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design is permitted as of September 15, 2010, but not required until March 15, 2012. >> Get updated on accessibility under the ADA.

JAN Releases Updated Accommodation Information for the Health Care Industry (05/20/11).

• The Office of Disability Employment Policy sponsored the "Health Care: Career Trends, Best Practices & Call-To-Action Summit" at Access Living in Chicago. It was an opportunity for Secretary Solis and ODEP Assistant Secretary Kathy Martinez to build strategic alliances and sustainable partnerships with industry leaders in order to achieve more widespread adoption and implementation of initiatives for employing people with disabilities. "We want to encourage the health care industry to include individuals with disabilities in educational and training programs," said Solis.
